10 Things Parents Should Know Before a Newborn Baby Photoshoot in Dubai
Bringing a newborn home is one of the most overwhelming, beautiful, and fleeting experiences of your life. Between feeds, nappy changes, and sleepless nights, it’s easy to let those tiny first days slip by without capturing them. A newborn baby photoshoot changes that. It freezes a moment in time that you will want to revisit for the rest of your life.
But first-time parents especially tend to walk into a newborn session not quite knowing what to expect. What should you bring? When should you book? What if the baby does not cooperate? These are questions I hear all the time, and they are all completely valid.
So before you book your session, here are ten things every parent in Dubai, Sharjah, or Abu Dhabi should know, straight from someone who has been doing this with love and care since 2012.
1. When Is the Best Time for a Newborn Photoshoot in Dubai?

This is the one I cannot stress enough. The ideal window for a newborn photoshoot is between five and twenty days after birth. Within those first few weeks, babies are still in that curled, sleepy, perfectly snuggly stage that makes for the most stunning photographs. They fold naturally, they sleep deeply, and they are far more relaxed during posing.
After the twenty-day mark, babies become more alert, their sleep becomes lighter, and getting them settled during a session takes considerably more effort. That does not mean a shoot cannot happen later, and I have absolutely done beautiful sessions for babies older than a month. But if you want the classic, dreamy newborn look, the earlier window is genuinely your best friend.
The smartest move? Book your newborn session while you are still pregnant. Lock in your date so that the moment your baby arrives, your spot is already waiting. Many parents who plan ahead pair this with a maternity photoshoot first, and it makes for a beautiful, connected set of memories covering the full journey from bump to baby.
2. What Do I Need to Bring to a Newborn Photoshoot in Dubai?

This one genuinely surprises a lot of new parents, and honestly, it is one of my favourite things to tell them.
You do not need to buy a single outfit, wrap, prop, or accessory for the shoot. Everything is provided, including:
- Wraps, swaddles, and layering pieces for the baby
- Themed props and setup materials tailored to your chosen aesthetic
- Outfits for baby across multiple setup changes
- A curated outfit for mum so you feel beautiful and put-together in every photo
For dads, I simply ask for a white or light-colored shirt or T-shirt paired with blue or black trousers or denim. Simple, clean, and always timeless in photographs.
If you have a specific outfit or sentimental piece you would love to include, you are absolutely welcome to bring it along. But the pressure of sourcing a full photoshoot wardrobe with a newborn at home? That is one thing you can completely cross off your list.
3. At-Home Newborn Photography in Dubai: Bringing the Studio to You

One of the most popular choices for families across Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi is an at-home newborn photography session. And there is a very good reason for that.
When you are postpartum, the idea of packing up a newborn and traveling anywhere can feel like an expedition. An in-home session removes that stress entirely. I come to you, I bring everything, and I set up a fully styled shoot right in your space.
There is also something genuinely special about photographing a baby in the home they were welcomed into. The light, the warmth, the familiar environment; all of it translates beautifully into the photographs.
A travel fee applies depending on your location, and sessions are available across Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, and surrounding areas.
4. How Long Does a Newborn Photography Session Take?

A newborn photography session is not a quick thirty-minute affair. Depending on the package you choose, a session can last anywhere from one hour to three hours, and that time is used well.
Babies need to be fed, settled, repositioned, soothed, and sometimes just held until they drift off again. I never rush a session. The entire photoshoot revolves around the baby’s comfort, mood, and cooperation, not a clock on the wall. The happier and more comfortable the baby is, the better the photographs will be. That is something I truly believe, and you will feel it from the moment the session begins.
So when you are planning your shoot day, clear your schedule. Have your partner or a family member around to support you. Make sure you have eaten well. And then simply let the session unfold at the baby’s pace.
5. Why Every Newborn Photoshoot Is Unique

There is no universal newborn photoshoot experience, and there should not be. No two babies are alike, and no two sessions are either.
Some babies love being snugly wrapped and will sleep through almost the entire shoot. Others prefer to lie freely and show off their faces. Some babies love certain props; others prefer to have nothing around them. During a session, I never enforce a position or a prop. I follow the baby’s lead entirely and build the setup around what makes them most comfortable and most themselves.
Before the session, we will have an initial consultation where I take the time to understand your vision, your preferred aesthetic, and any specific ideas you have in mind. From clean and minimal to rich and colourful, from classic to imaginative, I will plan the shoot around what feels right for your family.
Take a look at the newborn photography gallery to get a feel for the range of styles and themes available.
6. Can I Feed My Baby During the Photoshoot?

A full, drowsy baby is a photographer’s dream. Please do not worry about feeding during the session. Feed on demand, feed as many times as needed, and do not feel like you need to time feeds around the shoot.
A well-fed baby settles faster, stays asleep longer, and is far more cooperative during posing. I always factor feeding time into the session, so there is no pressure whatsoever. If you are breastfeeding, find a quiet corner whenever you need to. If your baby is formula-fed, have everything ready and accessible. The session continues around you, not the other way around.
7. How to Prepare the Room Temperature for a Newborn Photoshoot

If you are having your session at home, I will ask you to keep the room comfortably warm, warmer than you would typically prefer. Babies, especially newborns, lose heat very quickly, and a warm environment helps them stay sleepy, relaxed, and settled throughout the session.
You may want to dress lightly yourself in anticipation of this. It is a small thing, but it genuinely makes a meaningful difference to how the session flows.
8. Including Siblings and Family in a Newborn Photoshoot

A newborn shoot does not have to be just about the baby. Some of my most treasured images from sessions over the years have been the ones where an older sibling meets the camera for the first time alongside their new baby brother or sister, or where parents are captured in that quiet, overwhelmed, completely-in-love state that you only get in the very early days.
Depending on your package, parent and sibling portraits are included. And while the session will always prioritise the newborn’s comfort and lead, weaving family moments in between setups is something I genuinely love doing.
If you are thinking about a family session beyond the newborn stage, have a look at the family photography page for what that can look like.
9. When Will I Receive My Newborn Photos?

Once the session wraps up, the editing process begins. Every image is carefully and professionally retouched before delivery, and your final gallery will be shared with you through a Google Drive download link approximately three weeks after the shoot date.
The photos delivered are high-resolution, professionally edited digital images. Raw, unedited files are not included in the packages. If you have specific editing preferences or requests, the initial consultation is the best time to bring those up.
One more thing worth knowing: there is a ten percent social share discount available. If you are happy for Arpna Photography to share selected images and short video clips on social media, you receive a ten percent reduction on your package. Your privacy is always respected, and nothing is ever shared without your explicit permission.
10. How to Choose the Right Newborn Photographer in Dubai

A newborn photoshoot is not something most families do more than once or twice in a lifetime. The person behind the camera matters enormously, not just for the quality of the images, but for the safety and experience of your baby and the overall feeling of the day.
Working with a photographer who genuinely understands newborns, who knows how to handle them safely, who has the patience to follow a baby’s unpredictable rhythms, and who brings warmth and calm to the room makes an immeasurable difference.
I am Arpna, a female photographer based in Dubai with over thirteen years of experience specialising in newborn, maternity, baby, and family photography across the UAE. I am also a mother of two boys, and that perspective shapes every single session I do. When you hand me your baby, you are not handing them to a stranger with a camera. You are handing them to someone who genuinely loves what she does and treats every little one with the tenderness they deserve.
